What to Expect

Home visits are a unique way of offering support to families in the postpartum period. During home consults, I will travel to your home with all the equipment and scale to assess feeding and provide support. Common products used during feeding support such as nipple shields, bottles, pumping accessories and others travel with me and are available to you as needed.

  • All consults include a 40-minute travel from zip code 29376. A small travel fee will be assessed for additional travel time.

  • For legality purposes, consultations cannot commence if onboarding documents have not been signed and submitted.

  • Prepayment at time of booking is required for all cash consults and any additional travel fees.

Right before your consult:

  • As best you can, have your baby ready to feed. If needed, offer a small feed as an appetizer.

  • Set yourself up in the room of your choosing. No cleaning or tidying-up is necessary! I’m a mother of three and am very used to the chaos and disorganization of the postpartum period.

  • Please put away all pets to ensure all lactation equipment remains pet-dander free for future pet-sensitive families.

  • Make a list of all of your questions so you can get the most out of your consultation.

    During your consult:

  • Clients (parent and infant/child), and a support person are welcome to attend the consultation. If additional children need to be present, please have a second adult present to attend and supervise children so the clients can be provided the best of care and focus.

  • I will disinfect or wash my hands before we start the consult.

  • We will undress the baby and start with a fresh dry diaper.

  • Breastfed babies will be assessed in both pounds and grams on a medical-grade scale. Bottle-fed babies will only be assessed in pounds.

  • I will get to know you and your unique situation by reviewing your questionnaire, and discussing your feeding and consult goals. As a trauma-informed consultant, I’ll also assess your comfort level and needs during the consult to ensure you feel safe and comfortable.

  • If breastfeeding, I will assess a feed and offer recommendations. Pre/post-feed weights will be used to determine transfer. If bottle feeding, I will feed the baby to assess bottle-feeding skills.

  • Oral motor functional evaluations (lip/tongue/buccal ties) are performed as deemed necessary or requested.

After your consult:

  • Care plans will be shared in PDF format via email within 24 hours of your consult.

  • Questions between consults will be answered via a HIPPA-compliant platform.
